Solid Mineral Development Program

Research has shown that Southern Kaduna has over 30 minerals with over fifty percent (50%) of them minable. This mineral endowment embedded within the geology of Southern Kaduna is quite enormous. First are the metallic minerals which are widespread in the region. Some of the metallic minerals found include Cassiterite (ore of tin) Iron ore, rutile, tantalite, Columbite, among others. The group of non – metallic minerals found within this region are Talc, Muscovite, clay, etc.

Unfortunately, the region has not been able to gain from the huge potential of these minerals resources found within her soil. Worst is the activity of artisans and illegal miners, who have raped the region of these minerals without giving back to the society.

This program is meant to support the region to realize the huge economic potentials that the Solid Minerals can provide, thereby improving the economic situation within the region, and also contributing to the revenue generation drive of the government.

SOKAPEF intends to midwife all the interest groups for the full exploitation of these many and varied solid minerals for the good of the people of the land, and also serve as watchdog for the government and the people, concerning the proper and improper use of these resources.

We will be developing projects that would deal with the current challenges been faced by the sector and also help host communities appreciate the potential available for them, by exploring the uses of these resources for local production.

Activities will include

  • Monitoring of mining activities

  • Identification of Solid Minerals within Communities in Southern Kaduna

  • Up skilling of artisan miners

  • Community sensitization

  • Partnering with key stakeholders for value addition of Solid Minerals
