Program

Southern Kaduna is majorly an agrarian region. Most of the population are subsistence farmers. The region is famous for Ginger production and other crops such as Rice, Soya Beans, Guinea Corn, Yam, Maize, Cowpea, etc. Animal husbandry also thrives among the people. The region is blessed without abundant supply of grasses which serves as food for cattle, sheep, and goat. Farmers in the region also raise pigs and Chickens.

To tap into the full potential of agriculture for economic development, there is need to improve the current practices of agriculture within the region. SOKAPEF has designed this program to help farmers in the region and to improve their yield of crops and livestock to guarantee economic growth.

The program will involve:

  • Procurement and Distribution of fertilizers to farmers to ensure availability.

  • Dissemination of information on best farming practices for all types of crops that are grown in the region, in collaboration with agricultural research organizations.

  • Training of farmers on Agri business

  • Formation and registration of farmers cooperatives for access to loans and grants

  • Procurement and distribution of farm inputs such as seeds, pesticides, and herbicides.

  • Leasing of farm equipment

 

Methodology

SOKAPEF will partner with individuals and organizations involved in agricultural value chain to actualize this program through outreaches, seminars, workshops and training.
